- Filling the Tank correctly
One of the most common causes of tank leakage, is also the easiest to fix. The tank set-up has a central airflow tube which the vapour production comes out of. We call this the ‘Chimney’. If at any stage during the filling process e-liquid enters this tube – you will experience leaks and gurgling. To avoid this read the instruction manual that comes with the kit to double check you are filling the tank correctly. If e-liquid does enter this tube accidentally (which it does happen even to veteran vapours!), simply clean out the residue with paper towel before you continue to vape.
Another useful tip: do not overfill your tank, always leave an air pocket at the top to create a vacuum to prevent any e liquid from leaking.
- Check your O rings
O-rings are what creates the air seal for your tank. If one of these is worn or damaged your seal will not be working properly and leaks can occur. To see if your O-rings are intact, take apart your tank and examine them thoroughly. If you see any damage, wear (or they are completely missing) this could be a cause for your leaks. Replacing your O-rings will rectify this, just make sure you buy the right size for your tank!
- Check your seals
Leaks can also occur if the tank isn’t fastened together properly. Double check all threading to make sure they are aligned. Once you check these ensure all components are screwed tightly, but not too tightly as this can cause other issues.
It should be firm enough for it to hold, but be capable of being unscrewed without too much resistance.
Remember: be mindful to check if the threads have worn from use. If you have attempted to screw and unscrew the device to no avail – it may be time to replace your tank. But if you have a top filling device, it is highly unlikely to have wear on your threads – and the materials they use are usually pretty sturdy stuff!
- Keep your tank vertical
Sometimes leaks can occur simply because of gravity. To avoid this type of leakage out of the air holes, try to always leave your tank in a vertical position if leaving it for a long period of time. Similarly, when charging your device, it is recommended to remove the tank and sit in an upright position
- Close airflow when filling
The airflow component of your tank sets how powerful your inhalations need to be to vape. To avoid doing this too forcefully and bringing unwanted eliquid into the atomizer coil, which can flood the tank and cause leaks, open the airflow to a larger gap to allow more air through the atomizer. When filling your tank with e liquid, you must have the airflow closed to avoid any leaks.
- Coil problems
Sometimes you will come across a few faulty products. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable with mass produced products, especially if the product is coming from overseas where the same safety and regulations standards are practiced.
If you come across a bad coil, our advice to you would be to avoid using that batch as all the coils could be affected. Ensure your coil is screwed in firmly, if it is try another coil from a different source. If you are still experiencing the same complication then the issue is probably one of the other points discussed in this article.
- Clean your tank
Just like any container holding liquids, they need to be cleaned from time to time. A build-up of old residue could cause complications for yourself. To avoid this, take apart your unit, wash the tank in cold water then leave to dry out completely before putting it back together. To do a thorough cleaning of your tank, you can use a small amount of dish soap and warm water. Cotton ear buds are useful to get into the tricky corners. If you find yourself switching between flavours, you may have to do this more often.
- Check for cracks
If any cracks or damage happen to the tank, it will affect how airtight the tank is, and allow e liquid to leak into the air hole valve. You will require a replacement tank in this case.
- Use appropriate juice viscosity
Some coils require a significant amount of power, for these tanks any e liquid used that is lower than 70% VG, due to thinness of PG, has the high likeliness of leakage due to the larger ports that these tanks sport. The instruction manual that comes with the kit should indicate what viscosity should be used. So, for the big cloud producing devices a 70% VG and 30% PG and above is recommended, and MTL units are usually preferable to use UP TO 70% VG. Always check the label of your e liquid to check what PG/VG ratio you are using.
- Keep a lid on it
Tanks are pressurized. This means that if you leave the top cap off your tank, it will leak out of the airflows as the pressure is not correct. It can happen to the best of us, we all get distracted from time to time! If you want to leave your top cap off for any reason for an extended period of time, ensure that the tank is empty before you do so. You can close the airflow off which will help, but it is highly recommended to have the tank empty if you wish to have the top cap off.
So you just bought your new device and decided to try temperature control.
What is temperature control? Why is it so popular? Temperature control allows you to set the temperature at your desired sweet spot, this prevents those dry hits and burnt taste we all hate when vaping.
It’s like driving down the freeway and reaching 100 miles per hour then you stop accelerating take the foot off the pedal and are in cruise control mode. As with the Reactor Mega, find your preferred temperature and lock it in. Wattage mode is like driving down the freeway full pelt and having to continuously change the speed.
So what are the advantages of Temperature Control (TC)? It is said using TC will give you longer battery life and with the Reactor Mega being 5000 mAh that’s a lot of vaping power and long lasting stamina. Burnt hits are gone and less e liquid consumption is claimed. If the coil gets too hot or there is not enough juice in your mod the unit will cut off. So temperature control is becoming very popular and we would love your feedback on it.
Let’s talk more specifically about the Mega and temperature control which as a device has all the bells and whistles. The Reactor Shorty and Mini also come with TC (just smaller devices, battery mAh, and tank size.) The Shorty also comes with an 18650 battery.
We tried and tested the Reactor Mega and wanted to tell you more about the settings and finding our sweet spot.
Halo package their kits well. A nifty hard case is great for storing or travel. The three packaged boxes are presented well and separate the pieces. Inside you will find the power adapter, and at Ecigfuture – we throw in a complimentary US to AU adapter so you have no hassles charging!
The second box will reveal the USB charging cable, in your accessories box you will find the user manual and 2 x NI200 .15 ohm coils .
The tank fits 5 ml of e liquid for less refilling and ease of a top fill. We love the drip tip as it has great insulation and stops it getting too hot. Also the click when you adjust your air flow is pretty cool. Always prime your coil just a couple of drops of e liquid and we recommend a drop around the O rings keeping them safely in place before screwing on your tank firmly but don’t over tighten. Fill the tank about 3 quarters of the way is good. Keeping your air holes closed. Always recommend when your unit is not in use leave vertical. If you can wait ten minutes or more it’s good because the coil will absorb more e liquid.
I’ve switched on the unit – what next? The screen will give you all the information and guide you through. We want to talk more about Temperature Control itself which works well with the NI200 coils or stainless steel TC coils. The user manual will give you a guide as to what coils for what mode. We also recommend a higher VG ratio for the Reactor range. The Mega goes from 300 – 600 Celsius. I recommend starting at 300- 350 for a cooler vape then working your way up to find your personal preference. We found 450 gives a warmer vape and like running the Mega on 35- 40 Watts. That’s our sweet spot. The higher the temperature setting – the hotter the vape. But what we loved is it didn’t burn as it depleted. The clouds and flavour it produces is excellent!
You may find that your wattage will fluctuate a little depending where you are and what you’re doing. Going from a cool environment to a warmer one. The ability to use other tanks is good and we like using the Jag6. It’s a great size as a smaller tank option and their coils we thought lost zero flavour. We used it with the Reactor 50 w Mod with a .5 ohm duel coil and ran it at 35w.
The great thing Halo has offered is that you can use any tank from the Reactor on their Reactor devices giving you more options to mix it up. So to sum it up – we recommend experimenting with different coils and settings to find out how you like best like to use the Mega and other TC devices.
So to sum it up we recommend experimenting with different coils (that are suitable for T.C mode) and settings to find out how you like best like to use the Mega and other TC devices to find your very own sweet spot.
What is the Bypass mode (mechanical Mode)?
This is essentially allow your battery to operate as a Mechanical Mode. With this method instead of using variable wattage it will fire your battery with a maximum amount of wattage available in your battery as with the Mega 80 W battery. It is highly recommended you only use Kanthal wire coils! As Titanium or Nickle are more prone to overheating in Bypass Mode.
Bypass Mode is very popular with vapours that enjoy and like to rebuild their own coils allowing the battery to fire at a lower resistance. Mainly because the lower coil resistance enables the e liquid to be heated and vaporized quickly. Providing huge clouds and more flavour.
The coil affects your Ecig experiences. The lower the resistance the coil will heat up quickly – thus creating a warmer vape. (Warmer hit) and yes more vapour!
If your coil has a higher resistance, then the coil will heat up more slowly providing a cooler vape and hit. With less vapour.
We hope that helps with your new Mod and temperature control as we have been asked for an over-view and hope this helps!

There are two styles of vaping and you may have heard of these terms before but what do they mean.
Mouth to Lung Inhaling
This is the way traditional smokers smoke. Inhaling into your mouth and breathing into your lungs.
Direct lung inhaling is the new evolution of vaping and used with sub-ohm devices which also produce more vapour. The sub-ohm device needs to allow for more airflow. This will create much more vapour. So the term cloud chasers appeared in the ecig world. With mouth inhaling it is harder to hold all that vapour in your mouth with a looser airflow. So for example if you have the new Triton II and you want to vape as a more natural cigarette experience then you would keep the air holes more closed.
Tanks with airflow can be used with both styles of vaping. With MTL style of vaping keep the air holes more closed or open them up and let the air move around the coil and then you are ready to use Direct Lung Inhaling as your preferred vaping style. But again it is only what we think and you will find your preferred airflow setting and vape experience you love!
TC & The Reactor Range
The Reactor Shorty is an advanced sub ohm vaping device, capable of setting the actual temperature of the vapor. This is needed for any Ni200 coil, as they should never be used in variable wattage mode.
Scroll down to the “Coil” section for more information as to why the nickel coils should be used in the TC mode.
You can change the mode from wattage to one of the TC modes on the Reactor Shorty by pressing the firing button (3) times. When you see the display switch to showing the current mode, use the up/down buttons on the bottom of the device to cycle through the modes until you find the appropriate mode.
NOTE: The device will give you a “Temp Protection” message on the display if you set the temperature below.
E-Liquids to Use With Reactor Shorty
All e-liquid blends contain two basic ingredients; Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG). We have two ratios, one that is higher in PG and one higher in VG. The recommended ratio depends on the hardware type being used.
VG is a thick, sweet tasting base that creates a smooth lung hit, and dense vapor clouds. Sub Ohm units, better known as mods, works best with our High VG liquids [70vg/30pg].
In comparison, PG is a very thin base and does not alter the flavor of the liquid. It does however, help contribute to the “throat hit,” that many former tobacco users are looking for when first transitioning to an electronic cigarette. Traditional e-cigs will work best with the Standard formula, which is higher in PG at 70pg/30vg. So, if you are using this type of liquid, you will want to move to a high VG liquid.
You want to choose your nicotine based around the types of cigarettes you were smoking, not how much you were smoking.
To put the nicotine levels into perspective for traditional sub ohm units like the Reactor Shorty.
– 1.5mg/ml is comparable to Ultra-lights, the 3mg/ml is like lights, and the 06mg/ml close to full flavored.
In regards to the Reactor coils, we have three material types: Kanthal, Ni200 [nickel], and Stainless Steel. The resistance level is basically a personal preference; the lower the ohm, the hotter it will heat the e-liquid. The coil material is also a personal preference.
The Mini, Mega, and Shorty Reactor units all have TC [temperature control] modes, where you can use Stainless Steel, or Ni200 coils in the tanks and adjust by temperature, instead of wattage. These TC coils are intended for users who are looking to fine tune the actual temperature, instead of adjusting the wattage.
Kanthal coils are not TC coils and are only used in wattage mode. They remain a very popular coil type for their stable resistance at varying temperatures. The Clapton Kanthal coil is a braided coil, which has more surface area to heat the liquid, resulting in more flavor.
Ni200 are pure nickel, and it has a high temperature coefficient; which means that the resistance increases, the hotter the coil gets – therefore, the Ni200 coil type should only be used in TC mode.
Stainless Steel coils heat up much faster than other coils due to the steel being naturally low in resistance. These coils can be used in both variable wattage mode, and the “SS” mode on Reactor Mini, Mega, and Shorty units. Though most customers who are used to Kanthal coils seem to prefer to use these in TC mode only. You can buy your reactor coils here.
If you are having a continuous burnt flavour after just a few days, there are a few things that can be at play here. One of them could be using the device in variable wattage mode, and not the appropriate TC mode for the type of coil you have. If using the Ni200 0.25 ohm coils that came with the device, you will want to set the device to “Ni” mode right away. Also, if you have been using the Ni200 coils in wattage mode, you will also want to replace the coil prior to continuing use of this device.
Do Not Chain Vape – If you take frequent back to back hits, you are going to burn out the coil much quicker! You also can flood the coil, which can spit liquid in your mouth, and leak from the air vents. Wait at least 30 seconds in between drags.
Keep Tank Full – It is fine to let the liquid get a bit low in the tank however, if you are a heavy vaper, you will want to keep the liquid above the top of the coil as often as you can to prevent the wick sheets from not getting enough liquid to them.
Firing Button – Only press the firing button just before you start taking your drag, and ALWAYS let of of the firing button BEFORE you stop inhaling. This way you will clear all of the vapour created each puff. If you do not clear all of the vapour in the airflow chamber you can flood the coil, or if you hold the firing button down too long, you will burn out the coil much faster.
This dictionary explains terminology often used in vaping it also helps with questions about vaping. We are only to happy to chat about any queries you may have and personally help you choose which Halo e cigarette or mod is a good choice to suit your needs transitioning from smoking to vaping.I wish I had that when I first started vaping which is why I am not only selling e cigarettes I personally vape and understand in the beginning and even throughout your vaping journey you will have questions. I also can guide you with choosing e liquids flavors and other helpful information when first quitting and switching to vaping. Now vaping for 4 yrs I chose Halo for specific reasons .More to come soon about why Halo.
I started smoking at the age of 16. It was the cool thing to do. When I first smoked I would get the dizzy head spin but that did not deter me. Both my parents smoked so access to cigarettes was easy. We also had very little education about smoking related diseases.
When I began working I bought my own cigarettes, they were only about 50 cents a packet back then. I was a packet a day smoker. I started off smoking Kent then onto Winfield Blue in the later years.
My husband who also smoked stopped, I did not but every few years I would attempt to. I tried cold turkey, impossible for me. I tried patches, hypnotherapy, and it was suggested by a doctor I bury my cigarettes in the garden as a symbolic way of saying goodbye to my beloved cigarettes. I desperately dug them up later that day. I also tried prescription drugs the last one being Champix. I had a really bad reaction to that and had to stop taking it immediately. Then difficult times in my life just gave my brain another reason to say I need to smoke.
So between the coughing, wheezing, high blood pressure, smell, cost and so much more I chose to smoke. This friendship lasted for 36 yrs.
A friend introduced me to vaping. I received my first starter kit, a vape pen. I never picked up another cigarette. Vaping I believe saved my life.
My health improved on all levels I no longer smelt like an ashtray and yes you do have more money to spend elsewhere. I love everything about vaping, it is a way of life for me and I am proud to vape. It has filtered down to my son and a few friends. In saying that it is not for everyone but if you are reading this and you are thinking of giving vaping a go you have nothing to lose except the cost of your starter kit and an e liquid.
Vaping has helped millions to quit and switching to vaping all over the world is a much safer alternative. If you have any questions please call. Entering the world of vaping I found in the beginning was confusing. So good luck!
When I quit smoking nearly 4 and a half years ago and started vaping, I began with nicotine in my e liquid. You can buy nicotine e liquids from overseas for personal use for up to a 3 months’ supply. Nicotine in your e liquid has pepper undertones and will hinder the flavour of your e liquid . Of course you will get the throat hit, but I found vaping zero e liquids gave a very smooth vape and the taste of the flavours amazing. Especially fruit flavours like Halo Golden Kiwi one of my personal favourites and the peppermints like Kringles Curse and Frost Bite from NicVape totally refreshing.
It’s all about inhaling the pure flavour just like smoking. It’s not about the smoke ,fire, or tobacco.
So if you don’t want to alter the flavour of your e liquid and maximize flavour I recommend Zero e liquid. Many vapours are now enjoying trying all the full bodied flavoured zero nicotine free e liquids. And there are so many great flavours on offer ! Whatever your choice, its healthier and there is so much variety to choose from to find your own favourite e liquids whether they have nicotine or not or you like to float between the two.J
